Kim was one of the first professional female jockeys, she was leading Northern apprentice and went on to become leading lady jockey on two occasions. She rode 250 winners during her race riding career, and also rode over hurdles and fences.
A huge asset to the daily running of the yard, Kim is our principal work rider and is main assistant. Kim also works for the BHA as a jockey coach and assessor for licences.
Sam has been our secretary for over 25 years and is the daughter of jockey Mark Birch, who rode over 2000 winners.
Sam is very popular with and respected by all the staff. She has a great sense of humour, together with vast reserves of patience which she draws on every single day!
Rowan joined us as our stable apprentice for 2019 and is riding plenty of winners for us.
Rowan is from Hawick in Scotland, and had ridden lots of pony race winners prior to becoming an apprentice jockey.
He has a very good understanding with all types of horses and we are happy with our association with him.
Faye has been with us for over 2 years and is a great asset to the stable. She won the BHA/JETS award for most improved apprentice in 2018.
Faye is riding most days and is rarely seen without a smile. Although no longer an apprentice she is still able to claim her allowance which is a huge asset, as horses like her and run for her.
Helen has been with the stable for over 18 years. A life sentence and it is probably too late to release her back into the community,
She looks after all the veterinary issues and is particularly effective at managing the more difficult horses. She vows every year not to have a favourite horse, but that never lasts very long.
She looks after many of the stable stars including Kaeso, Normandy Barriere and Roundhay Park
Helen also runs her own livery yard, attends to the foaling of the stable broodmares, and is very active in the rehoming of our retired racehorses.
Amy, daughter of Nigel and Kim, is the travelling head girl for the stable. She organises all the transport for race days and ensures the horses are turned out correctly at the races.
Amy drives the horsebox thousands of miles throughout the season and has a sixth sense when it comes to directions and the motorway network.
She loves all of the horses, and she is now looking after Etienne Gerard in his retirement, embarking on a new endurance career.
James joined the team in October 2018.
Amongst his favourite horses he looks after are Dutch Coed and Flying Raconteur.
He hopes to be a successful amateur rider and is pictured here with a recent ride Camanche Grey.
Lara joined the stable at the beginning of this year following 3 months at the racing school.
Pictured here with one of her favourites Abbey Wharf.
CHLOE -MARIIE THORNTON
Chloe arrived in March 2019 and loves her work at stable.
She has many favourites among the horses she looks after, including My Havana and Violette Szabo.
Chloe hopes to continue working at the stable with a view to obtaining her Jockey licence in the future.
